What’s in a Lode?
Lodes are formed from Granite intrusions and their surrounding metamorphic rock.
270 million years ago, as the granite in Cornwall began to form and cool, cracks formed in the granite and surrounding metamorphosed rock in which mineral-rich fluids collected and cooled. Cassiterite and other metallic minerals are found in these almost vertical sheets in the rock and form the valuable ore mined all over Cornwall.
