It is really important to us that Geevor has something to offer everyone whatever their access requirements. We do this by providing lots of different ways to enjoy the site and by providing lots of information before your visit so you know what to expect. This is an ongoing project so please get in touch with us with any ideas as to how we can improve.
Plan your visit
Geevor’s Accessibility Guide (hyperlink) provides accurate measurements, descriptions and images. It is useful for visitors with a variety of access requirements. As Geevor was a working mine until very recently, we understand the importance of giving those with restricted mobility as much information as possible about the physical practicalities of the site.
Limited mobility/ short visit
For those with limited mobility or who want a shorter visit, our Hard Rock Museum, housed in a former workshop building, is Geevor in a nutshell and has been designed to be a complete experience in itself. It contains an accessible lift, accessible toilet, plenty of room to manoeuvre around the exhibits, lots of hands on activities and a film. There is a reduced ticket price for this option.
Shop and café
Our café has huge windows with a fabulous view over the site taking in a wide panorama of The Tin Coast. It is a great place for those who cannot access the rest of the site to sit and take in the atmosphere. Our shop and café has parking immediately outside. It has an accessible toilet and lift platform. The button for the lift platform is situated outside of it, so requires the assistance of an additional person. We can arrange alternative access to the café for those with long wheelchairs. Please talk to a member of staff.
Dogs welcome
We welcome dogs across our entire site except in the café complex and underground. Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere. Drinking water for dogs is provided outside reception, on the tin floors and outside the café and shop.
Accessible parking
Accessible parking is available directly outside the main reception entrance.
Accessible toilets
There are 3 accessible toilets on site, in the reception building, car park and Hard Rock Museum.
Visual impairment
Geevor is an environment that is experienced through all the senses. Films with audio that give information about the heritage play in The Hard Rock Museum Cinema and Tin Floors. A large print guide and map are available from reception. There are large print signs on displays around the site.
Accessible guides
Our easy read and large print guide and map are available from reception. Lots of people find them useful.
Carers
Carers of visitors with limited mobility or visual impairment are admitted free of charge.
Take your time
There are lots of places to sit across the site.
Children
People of all ages enjoy exploring Geevor. We have lots to do for children including a trail and interactive exhibits. We run a programme of events and activities aimed at children particularly in the school holidays. Please see our website or ask at reception for more details. Pushchairs cannot access all building, so you might want to bring a baby carrier. To go underground children need to be able to walk independently.
Breastfeeding mothers
We welcome breastfeeding mothers. There are lots of places to sit down across the site. Our café has some comfy sofas and a lovely view.
Heritage champion volunteers
If you consider yourself to have a disability or additional needs and love Geevor, why not volunteer to become a heritage champion? Your role would be to liaise between Geevor and people with similar needs as yours, helping us remove barriers and letting others know the opportunities we can offer.
Talk to us
If you have any queries please contact our reception on 01736 788662 or email jo.buckingham@geevor.com. We are here to help. After your visit please let us know how well we have done.
Our staff have received deaf and disability awareness training and are very keen to help you get the most from your visit.
