Geology affects almost everywhere you look; under your feet, in the buildings, on the roof tops and even in your back garden.
What is geology?
Geology is the study of the Earth, its origin, history and structure. Geology looks at the rocks which make up the Earth. Geologists use this information to find and use natural resources which provide raw materials and energy.
Geological time is measured in millions of years, counting backwards from the present day (0) through relatively recent events such as the end of the age of the dinosaurs (about 65 million years ago) to the beginning of Earth (4,600 million years ago). Geological maps show the location of different rock types.
The geology of Cornwall is fascinating. It holds some of the oldest rocks in Britain(as far back as 600 million years ago!)
