Amethyst (SiO2)

large amethyst mineralAmethyst has been used for thousands of years to make jewellery and is still a popular gemstone.

The word amethyst comes from the Greek word ‘amethistos’ which means ‘not drunk’. It was believed that drinking alcohol in an amethyst cup would prevent drunkenness.
