Volunteer at Geevor
Become a part of our community
Geevor relies on the support of our team of volunteers. If you’d like to give something back to the community, and share your enthusiasm for the wonderful work at Geevor, please get in touch with us.
As a volunteer, you would be joining a friendly and dynamic team engaged in a wide range of different projects to help preserve record and interpret the many different collections and stories held here at Geevor.
Training and support is given to all our volunteers, protective clothing is provided for the relevant projects and we reimburse all travel costs. We also provide free tea and coffee!
The Oral History Project
Since 2002, Geevor has been compiling an oral record of miners, surface workers and other member of the local community. Our volunteers record these fascinating memories, stories and anecdotes.
Engineering and machinery restoration projects
Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable team have restored to working order rock drills and muckers that work under compressed air. Battery-powered locomotives that were once used to pull wagons of ore underground have now been brought back into use. February 2024: In the Mill the ball mill that was used for grinding the ore and last worked in 1990 has now been brought back into working order. We are now working on the steam winder!
Our event programme is constantly expanding and we are always on the lookout for volunteers wishing to get involved in supervising events such as hand drilling, art projects or even storytelling to our younger visitors.
Object cataloguing and archiving
Geevor has a collection of many thousands of objects in need of cataloguing and conservation, and we’d love to hear from you if you could help with this.
